Pierce wishes to express their heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The funeral has been announced and is taking place on Monday 19th September and has been declared a public holiday.
What does this mean to your business?
As a business, if your employment contract separates holidays and bank holidays then you will be required to grant the extra day holiday. However, if you specify the number of bank holidays you allow, for example, 8 bank holidays (in England) then you are not obliged to give the additional day of the funeral.
In the latter case, you may offer the additional bank holiday and take it from the employee's holiday allowance with notice.
As the Queen's funeral is a National event, many employees will be wishing to watch the funeral and mark the occasion. We encourage businesses to participate if they can as this will encourage the retention of good employees.
